Q 1-Molecular formula of compd ‘A’ is C2H7N. It gives bad smelling compd with CHCl3 & Alc. KOH. It gives compd ‘B’ with HNO2 & ‘B’on oxidation gives ‘C’ & then ‘D’. Compd ‘C’ gives Ag mirror with Tollen’s reagent . Compd ‘D’ gives CO2 gas with NaHCO3 . Explain with equations & give name & formula of A,B,C&D.
Ans.
(1) compd ‘A’ C2H7N gives bad smelling compd with CHCl3 & Alc. KOH, so compd ‘A’ is primary amine.
compd ‘A’ is C2H5NH2.
C2H5NH2 + CHCl3 + 3 KOH(Alc.) —–>C2H5NC + 3KCl + 3H2O
‘A’ (bad smelling compd)
(2) Compd ‘A’ gives ‘B’ with HNO2.
C2H5NH2 + HNO2 —–>C2H5OH +N2 +H2O
‘A’ ‘B’
Hence compd ‘B’ is C2H5OH.
Compd ‘C’gives Ag mirror with Tollen’s reagent, so it is an aldehyde
CH3CHO +Ag2O ——-> CH3COOH + 2Ag
‘C’
Compd ‘D’ gives CO2 with NaHCO3, so it is an acid.
CH3COOH +NaHCO3 ——> CH3COONa +H2O +CO2
‘A’ is C2H5NH2 (ethyl amine or ethanamine) ; ‘B’ is C2H5OH (ethyl alcohol or ethanol) ; ‘C’ is CH3CHO (acetaldehyde or ethanal) ; ‘D’ is CH3COOH (acetic acid or ethanoic acid) .
Q 2- Mol.formula of compd ‘A’ is C2H6O.It reacts with conc.H2SO4 at 140 degree Centi. to form compd ‘B’. Compd ‘B’ reacts with cold HI then forms ‘A’ & one other compd ‘C’ . Compd ‘C’ on hydrolysis gives ‘A’. Give equations & name of A , B & C.
Ans.
Mol.formula of ‘A’ =C2H6O
‘A’reacts with conc.H2SO4 at 140 degree Centi. to form compd ‘B’. Compd ‘B’ reacts with cold HI then forms ‘A’.thus ‘A’ is ethyl alcohol & ‘B’ is ether.
C2H5OH + H2SO4 —–>C2H5HSO4 +H2O
C2H5HSO4 + C2H5OH —–> C2H5OC2H5 + H2SO4
‘B’
C2H5OC2H5 + HI —-> C2H5OH + C2H5I
‘B’ ‘A’ ‘C’
C2H5I +H.OH —-> C2H5OH +HI
‘C’ ‘A
‘A’ is C2H5OH (ethyl alcohol or ethanol) ; ‘B’ is C2H5OC2H5 (diethyl ether or ethoxy ethane) ; ‘C’ is C2H5I (ethyl iodide or iodo ethane)
